Davide Oldani's D'O confirms itself as a solid stronghold of minimalism and simplicity, with the addition of an imaginative twist. The venue is spacious, featuring a fresh, refined and chic environment, with well-spaced tables. The skillful use of wood in the four different areas - one of which is dominated by the open kitchen – gives it a much warmer feel. The service is attentive and kind, perhaps - at times – even too attentive. The choice, at the moment, is binding to the two tasting menus, without the possibility of ordering from the menu. The menu “Esattezza” (Exactness) is a tasting menu of five courses that celebrates Oldani's great classics (sometimes revisited) at 90 euros per person, excluding wines; and “Armonia” (Harmony), eight courses with the chef's most current and innovative proposals at 120 euros per person. After the delicious welcome entrees, we start with the caramelized aubergine, which - due to seasonality - takes the place of the most popular onion; then the risotto with cress, citrus pepper and prescinseua; followed by the two main courses: the tenderloin with lemon and mugnaia and the cube of Milanese cutlet; finally the babà with blueberry, tonka beans and grappa and to close, the small patisserie. The risotto with watercress with citrus pepper and prescinseua and the Milanese-style costoletta stand out: the veal cubes, in this famous dish, are paired by an identical number of empty cubes made of breading, with the bone made into mousse, and a sauce - poured at the table - that outline a cutlet among the various elements. The desserts are also excellent. In general, an experience to indulge in, although the constraint of the two tasting menus is limiting and it affects the sparkling soul that was the key to the success of this starred location.
