In the heart of Genova’s historic center, a few steps from the San Lorenzo cathedral, Il Masetto has now been a landmark for street food in the Ligurian capital for about five years now. The place is very small, and always overcrowded. To wait your turn and to be served you must arm yourself with patience, but the wait is truly worth it. The service, in any case, is rapid, courteous and very efficient, so do not be discouraged. The meat, as with all of the raw materials used here, is high quality and is shown on a blackboard with a description and its origin. Beyond the beef and the sausage from Alta Val Tanaro, there are fantastic panini with interesting combinations, such as the tartar of artichokes and olives, lemon pepper, porcini mushroom sauce and Raschera d’alpeggio cheese. We must also highlight the quality of the fried potatoes, a detail that should not be taken for granted in a street food establishment.
