La Sangiovesa is the brainchild of Manlio Maggioli and his deep love for Romagna. It was born from dialogue and friendship with extraordinary figures from the Romagna cultural scene. Alongside him were Tonino Guerra, poet, writer, screenwriter, and tireless champion of local identity, and Alteo Dolcini. It was with them that the first creative circle took shape, from which the osteria would later emerge. It was Dolcini who came up with the name “La Sangiovesa” and asked Federico Fellini to draw the full-bodied woman who has always symbolized the osteria. Maggioli’s idea was to turn the palace into “something new and also very ancient, something worthy of being discovered or, if old, unearthed from indifference.” The eleven rooms are a journey between present and past, expressed through the magnificent repertoire of Romagnola cuisine—indulgent and full of flavor—conceived and crafted for over twenty years by Massimiliano Mussoni. The trattoria is the heart of a range of offerings, including the shop where products can be purchased. A beautiful wine list, incredible service, and a perfect balance of tradition, history, culture, and product quality, achieved through careful control of the agricultural and livestock supply chain.
