Step inside and you feel at home: the value of family is immediately apparent, and in places where people eat, that always makes a difference, as does passion. The passion of Gianni Marsella, who passed away prematurely in 2018, and who lives on in these welcoming rooms, carefully detailed and psychologically comforting. Gianni and his wife Paola Ortesta, both university students in Bari, fell in love, married, and decided to return to the fornello that Gianni’s father Martino had opened as a butcher’s shop in 1969. It was the beginning of an extraordinary gastronomic adventure. The response to Gianni’s passing was to keep him present in every gesture, in every dish, but above all in the cultured, deeply considered wine cellar curated by his sister Rosanna, now joined by his son Martino (named after his grandfather), who is as passionate as his father. The result is a cuisine, overseen by Paola, that is traditional, clean, well executed, and uncompromising (sweetbreads and marretto take pride of place), starting from exceptionally high-quality ingredients, the fruit of more than 50 years of experience in the area. In this way, the story of a family blends with that of the territory, told in a modern key (with flawless, attentive service that is quick yet warmly familiar, making everyone feel at ease, as should be the case in any restaurant).
